Math 214 Spring 2008: Homework

Problems appearing in boldface should be turned in. I encourage you to also turn in non-boldface problems, even though they won't get graded! The other problems are also good problems, useful for practicing your understanding of the material. Problems marked "EC" are Extra Credit. I generally will not entertain questions about these problems in class, for those you should come visit me in office hours. The grader is TBA.

Explain your work: You should always explain your work, even if the book doesn't ask you to. How much detail should you include? Enough for a classmate who doesn't know how to do the problem to be able to follow and understand your work.

HOMEWORK INSTRUCTIONS

Write your Name and the HW # and Course Title (Math 214 Spring 2008) on the first page of your homework and make sure all pages are stapled together. HW submissions that are not stapled and/or missing a name may not be graded. No late HW is accepted, for any reason. There will be many opportunities to receive BONUS HW points; if  you miss a HW concentrate on doing one of those.

Advice: Read the entire section, not just what's necessary for the HW problems; otherwise you'll miss the "big picture," which will seriously hurt you later.
#0 Automathography: How does your biography intersect with your current mathematical knowledge and interest? That is, how does what courses you have taken previously influence how you view mathematics now? This should not just be a laundry list of courses you have taken but a reflection on your view of mathematics through the prism of your individualized experience. Limit is 250-400 words. Word-processed, not hand written  Wed 1/25 Wed 1/25
