Math 214 Spring 2008: Group Projects

The Group Project is 20% of your semester grade. It is an exciting way of synthesizing the material in Math 214 with your own creativity to provide you with a learning experience where you have the opportunity to communicate mathematics in verbal form.

Here is a time line of important deadlines to make sure the Term Project is completed successfully.

Project Timeline

Friday February 22: Team Selection and Abstract Submission DUE (10 points)
 You should submit a typed one page proposal with the name of your project partner (or partners) with a very short paragraph describing the idea you are thinking of exploring for your Term Project. A title should also be included.
Friday March 21: Project Proposal DUE (20 points)
You should submit a revised abstract and title with attached summary of sources of information  and/or bibliography you are consulting as you research your Term Project topic. Should also include a 1-2 page summary of work done so far and work to be done before the project is completed. You should also select a date in which you want to make your presentation.
Friday April 4 to Monday April 14: Progress Check (20 points)
During this week, the Project Group should make an appointment to meet with me together in person to discuss the progress of your project and "check-in" to evaluate what needs to be done to complete the project. The presentation schedule will be set during the progress check interview.
Friday April 18: Rough Draft (20 points)
A rough draft of the written version of your course project is due at 5pm on Friday April 18th Monday April 21st.
Monday April 28 and Wednesday April 30: Oral Presentations (100 points) Spring 2006 Projects Spring 2007 Projects
Most oral presentation of projects will be in class on two consecutive days, the last week of class.
For 10% more in bonus points,
I would like to have other Project Presentations earlier in the semester
(Monday Apr 14, Wed Apr 16, Mon Apr 21 or Wed Apr 23rd Fri Apr 25).

Project Papers (80 points) will not be due until the last day of class: Wednesday April 30.
