Monday December 10
The exams and labs are available for pick-up outside my door in the Math 110 folders. The Exam 3 Report (with the curve) is now available.
 
The Final Exam Review has been moved to 4-6pm in Fowler 302 on Wed Dec 12th.
Thursday December 5
There will be a final exam review on Wednesday December 12th from 5-7pm in Fowler 301
 
Every question on the final exam (including the multiple choice will be a question you have seen before, either on a quiz (including BONUS or EXTRA CREDIT), HW, worksheet, lab, previous in-class exam or review exercise!
 
Buckmire is out of town and unavailable for appointments on Mon Dec 10 and Tue Dec 11.

Monday December 3
BONUS QUIZ 4 and all EXTRA CREDIT HW's are due today. The Project paper is not due until 5pm on Wednesday. It should be NO MORE than 5 pages long (not including diagrams and your works cited page)
Your paper should have a clear THESIS (statement of question/hypothesis) and somewhere in your paper you should have a conclusion and answer to the question.
 
Friday November 30
Bonus Quiz 4 is now available online only, It is due in class on Monday December 3rd.
 
Current Version of the Project Presentation schedule is available here. Check to make sure you have no conflicts.
 
Blackboard has been updated with latest GATEWAY results. You have THREE more Days (Mon, Tue and Wed) to master the Derivatives gateway and avoid having your final grade lowered by 1/3rd of a letter grade and getting 10 BONUS HW points.

Tuesday November 27
HW 33 is now extra credit, along with HW 34. They can both be handed in on Monday December 3rd by 5pm. Note that in HW 32, Question 19, the exact solution of the ODE  y'=-y/x is y(x)=sqrt(1-x2). (How would you check that?)
 
Monday November 26
There is supplemental material available for reading on Slope Fields, Rate Equations and Euler's Method.
I would strongly recommending reading these before attempting the homework!
 
My solutions to the Advanced single variable optimization problems from HW 31 are available online now.
 
EXAM 3 Review Exercise solutions are now available. Answers to the Fall 2004 Exam 3 are also available.
Quiz 10 is due in class today. Derivatives Gateways should be passed by THU NOV 29 (Exam 3).
 
Monday November 19
HW30 is still due Tuesday November 20th at 5pm. HW31 is due Mon November 26th at 5pm and 5.5.25 and 5.5.36 have been made extra credit.
 
Friday November 16
The Study Guide for Exam III (Topics and Review Questions) has been distributed online. Exam 3 will be Thursday November 29 from 7pm on.
 
Solutions to HW this week and last week have been posted to the Homework page.
 
Thursday November 15

For HW30 and HW 31(both from Section 5.5) that are due on Tuesday November 20th I have indicated exactly which questions will be graded (the ones in bold). However I strongly recommend that you do all the HW questions since a question like that will appear on Exam 3.

 
Wednesday November 14

Lab 11 write-up is due in Lab tomorrow. Grade Allocation sheets are available outside my door in Fowler 313.

Quiz 9 will occur in Lab tomorrow, and we shall begin Lab 12 on curve sketching.
HW 30 & HW 31 will be due TUESDAY NOV 20th at 5pm. HW 27, 28 & 29 will be due THU NOV 15.
Derivatives Gateway, Quiz 8 and BONUS HW have been graded and points added to Blackboard.

Solutions to Exam 2 are now available online. The Exam Report is also available, as is Exam 2 itself.

 
Please note there are only THREE "exotic" indeterminate forms: 00, (∞)0 and 1(∞) in addition to the "regular" indeterminate forms: 0/0, ∞/∞ and (∞)(0).
 
Friday November 9
Quiz 8 is now available and will be distributed in class. There is a BONUS (HW) problem that is due on Monday. Find the derivative of x^(x^x). Write up your answer (neatly! and showing all steps) and submit with your quiz on Monday November 12 and receive up to 5 BONUS HW points!
 
Thursday November 8
The Derivatives Gateway must be mastered by Thursday November 29 (Exam #3). For every gateway that you pass on time (up to 3) you obtain 10 BONUS HW points.
 
Wednesday November 7
HW25 and HW26 are due in class on Thursday. The Derivatives Gateway will be done in Lab, along with a Lab 11: A Plethora of Derivatives worksheet.
 
Monday November 5
Come to class in order to do a mid-semester evaluation. Start work on Chapter 4 Review Homework Exercises.
 
Saturday November 3
The final exam date is set for Thursday December 13th from 6:30-9:30pm probably in Fowler 301 and Fowler 302.
 
Friday November 2
 There is no class today (Exam 2 recovery!) There is class on Monday (Assessment of Exam 2)
 
Thursday November 1
 The AMP Mock Exam is now available online. The solutions are available also.
 
Here is some information about Exam 2. There are no cheat sheets allowed. Graphing Calculators are allowed. The question topics are as follows (all questions besides BONUS have equal weight):
1. Differentiation Rules.
2. True/False: Differentials, Related Rates, Chain Rule, Differentiability, Continuity
3. Visualization of the Derivative
4. Definition of the Derivative, Limits.
5. Chain Rule, Tangent Lines, Implicit Functions, Logarithmic Differentiation.

Wednesday October 24
I have extended the deadline to the Lab write-up to 5pm on Thursday (same TIME as the homework).
Do NOT put your lab write-ups in the HW box. Make sure that your lab write-up has the Lab Allocation Cover Sheet stapled on top with signatures of all the members of the group.

Exam 2 is now officially on Thursday November 1 starting at 7pm in Fowler 301 and 302. If You can not make hat time contact me and sign-up for a different time to take the exam. You may NOT take the Exam after the regularly scheduled time.

 
Thursday October 18
You have two more weeks to pass the Functions gateway. It must be passed by Exam 2 on Thursday November 1. Lab write-up on "Limits, Differentiability and Continuity" is due Thursday October 25.
 
Wednesday October 17
The Project Proposal due date has been moved to Friday October 26. See the Project Info handout for more info or consult the Assignments -> Projects page.

Monday October 15
Quiz 4  has been graded and scores are available online on blackboard.oxy.edu, along with solutions to both Quiz 4 and BONUS QUIZ 1. Recall: Quiz 5 and BONUS QUIZ 2 are due in Class on Wednesday.
 
Wednesday October 10
Quiz 5 is now available online and will be distributed in class. In addition, BONUS QUIZ 2 is also now available. There are HINTS available on the Quizzes page. As usual, both quizzes are due in the next class period, Wednesday October 17th. (Buckmire is out of town on Friday October 12 and class is cancelled: see Course Schedule.
 
Monday October 8
Happy Coming Out Week! I will be out of town on Thursday and Friday so we will not have class on those days. I strongly encourage you to work on  your Lab Report write-up which is due Thursday October 25th.

Thursday October 4
Lab #6 is today. This is our first "Exploration" lab. See the Assignments -> Lab section for more information.
The Lab report will be due on Thursday October 25th.

Exam 1 is graded and scores are available on Blackboard. The Exam 1 Report (with the Grade Distribution) is available. The self-assessment form is available online also.
 
Tuesday October 2
Gateway scores have been updated on Blackboard. You have until THURSDAY OCTOBER 4th to pass either Exponents and/or Equations/Inequalities gateway to insure that your final grade will not be lowered by 1/3rd pf a letter grade. You have until Exam #2 (Thursday November 1) to pass the Functions gateway.

Friday September 21
Your First Term Project deadline is NEXT FRIDAY (Put the names of your Project Team on a piece of paper along with a proposed title and a few sentences describing the thoughts you have what you want your project to be about) and place the paper in the Math 110 box by 5pm on Fri September 28
 
Thursday September 20
Thursday in Lab we will do the Functions gateway (needs to passed by Exam 2) and Quiz 3.

Please Note that if you turned in Chapter 1 Review (HW 6) last week, you need to RESUBMIT it this week in order for it to be graded.

Exam #1 is NEXT THURSDAY SEP 27th 7-?? pm in Fowler 301 and 302. A practice exam and study guide have been added to the Exam 1 page (in Exams -> Exam 1)

 
Monday September 17
The Functions Gateway Help sheet and Functions Gateway Practice sheet have been distributed in class.

Grades for the Exponents and Equations gateway are now available on Blackboard. If you did not pass, you have until Thursday October 4th (note new deadline!) to pass EITHER Exponents or Equations. If you pass both, that will be a BONUS equivalent of 10 HW points.

 
Sunday September 16
The yellow sheet handed out for Week #5 are incorrect. The questions on the website are correct. This only affects HW #10, #11 and #12 Due 9/27.
 
Friday September 14
The clickers make their debut in class today! Solutions to the first two HW sets are available online, at Assignments->Homework, then click on "Solution."
 
Quiz 2 is a take-home quiz. That means it is like a mini take-home exam. You must use only the time allotted to complete the quiz, and it must have your signature on it in order to be graded. If you decide to attach an extra sheet to explain your answers, it must be stapled to your quiz. Do NOT staple your quiz back together when you are finished. Quizzes must be turned in at the beginning of the next class. NO LATE QUIZZES accepted.
 
There is an informational meeting on the 3/2 Engineering Program in Hameetman Science Center on Tuesdat September 18th at 4pm.
 
Thursday September 13
Quiz 2 is now available online, with a hint in the Assignments->Quiz section. It will be distributed in class on Friday. There are TWO WEEKS until Exam 1 when you must have passed you first gateway by.

The Blackboard course website has been established. You can check your grade information online. Login: Your userid (the left half of your email address before the @oxy.edu) and password: either email password or your Oxy student number.
 
The AIM screen names for close to 90% of the class is now available on the Resources->Students page.

Tuesday, August 28
There will be no Calculus Lab on Thursday August 30, but there will be class on Friday August 31. You be taking a 40-minute multiple choice exam called the "Calculus Concept Inventory" as aprt of a research project to improve calculus teaching.
