December 15

The Differential Equations
2008 Final Exam (and solutions) are available online.
 
December 9
 The Final Exam review session will be THURSDAY DECEMBER 11 4-6pm IN FOWLER 307.

The Practice Final Exam is the Fall 2006 final exam by Prof. Gallegos.

 
December 3
 The powerpoint links to the Final Project presentations are up and they look great!
You can obtain the grading rubrics for the oral presentations, the written presentation and the individual Final Project self-evaluation form.
 
 The Final Exam will consist of 1 regular exam on Section 6.1-6.5 as well as the basic ideas from 7.1-7.3 plus a cumulative exam which will be 10 ten-point questions.

The review session will be on Thursday December 11th (afternoon). I will make a mock final exam available and provide a summary of topics. You are allowed to bring in one page of hand-written notes. I will provide you with the Laplace Transform formulas you'll need.

 
December 2
 The Laplace Transforms Help Sheet is available on the resources page. REMINDER: The final exam is FRIDAY DECEMBER 12th 1pm-4pm in Fowler 307.
 
December 1
Since the original idea of the extra credit opportunities (ECOs) was for you to do a majority of the available opportunities and there are now only 9 instead of 10, I have reduced the number you need to FIVE ECOs. They are still due by Wed Dec 3rd.
 
November 30
Quiz #8 is due in class on Monday December 1. ECO reflections on Brian Fischer's talk are also due (at 5pm).
 
Project Oral Presentations begin in class on Monday. Pinkel & Ross, Ackerman & Crow-Willard and  Sfregola & Wong present on the first day (Dec 1). Alexander, Kerr & Rodriguez, Krasik-Geiger & Miller and Olm & Wensman present on the second day (Dec 3).
 
 All ECO write-ups must be turned in by 5pm on Wednesday December 3rd. That is when final version of your Project Papers are due. You also need to email me your powerpoint files by 5pm on Wed Dec 3.
 
November 21
HW Week #14 (6.3, 6.4 & 6.5) is due Monday at 5pm.
 
EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY: Brian Fischer's talk in Fowler 307 on Monday November 24th, NOTE: ALL ECO write-ups are due WED DEC 3rd at 5pm.
 
FINAL DRAFT of the Course Project is due Monday December 1, at the beginning of class.
 
There will be one last Take Home Quiz (Number Eight) and a BONUS QUIZ (Number Four), both due Monday December 1 IN CLASS.
 
November 18
Reading Quiz (On Sections 6.1-6.5) will be postponed to Friday November 21st.
 
November 17

EXAM #2 "Extra Credit Opportunity" write-up is due WED a 5pm.
 
November 12
Exam 2 has been graded and returned. The Exam 2 Report is available. You have until Wednesday November 19th to submit a completed version of the exam that reaches 90% in order to qualify for an "Extra Credit Opportunity."
 
If you hand in your Project Paper draft by Thursday November 13th at 5pm that is another "Extra Credit Opportunity." Otherwise, they are due at 5pm on Monday November 17th. The final draft is due Monday December 1.
 
HW Section 6.1 and 6.2 is due Mon Nov 17th at 5pm. Quiz #7 is due in class.
 
November 10
HW (Chapter 5 Review and Section 5.4) is due at 5pm today.

New Extra Credit Opportunities! There's a talk by ANDREA BERTOZZI (UCLA)called "Swarming By Nature and by Design" at CalTech today that would be excellent for students in math 341 to attend.

LAST attempt at Exam 1 Extra Credit due 5pm Mon Oct 27. Even if you haven't submitted a black Exam 1 before, you can do so. Please note that to receive the extra credit you must have the exam 90% correct and your explanations must be COMPLETELY CLEAR. You are allowed to consult me before you hand it in if you are unsure if you have reached the 90% level.

 There is a reading quiz in class today. Take-home quizzes are due at 2:30pm at the beginning of class.

 There is a bad typo on the quiz. The right hand side of the ODE should be F(u)=u^2+2u, not F(u)=u^2+u. I changed it at the last minute to make it easier but that changes the exact solution to something different from what I gave you.

You can either do the quiz as written or modify your quiz and do it the way I intended, y'=(y/x)^2+2(y/x). You have "infinite" time.

There is a take-home quiz available today. There will be a reading quiz on Section 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 in class on Monday September 8.
