| Extra Credit Opportunities |
Note: by successfully completing SIX FIVE
(or more) of these
extra credit opportunities by Wednesday December 3rd, your final grade will be
increased by a third of a letter grade, i.e. from B+ to A-. Doing less
than 6 will earn no extra credit. There will be between 6-10 extra credit
opportunities throughout the semester.
All ECO's must be turned in by the
last day of class (Wed Dec 3).
No one source of ECO can be a majority of your ECOs.
In other words, you can't have 3 Media ECOs or 3 "talk" ECOs or 3 Exam Write-up ECOs (this third is not possible, since there were only two exams)
to get to the magic number of FIVE ECOs.

Exam 1 Re-Write |
Mon October 6 | Wed Oct 15 | Print out a blank version of Exam #1 and write-up solutions to all the problems. In order to get credit for this opportunity, your written up version of the exam must be 90% correct. |

ODEs in the Media |
Mon October 6 | Wed Dec 3 | Find an example of ODEs appearing in the popular media (New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Scientific American, Time, etc) and write up a 1-2 page explanation of the concepts and ideas from ODEs that occur in the media. Also, include a copy of the excerpt from the popular media source. LIMIT OF THREE ODEs in the Media and they have to be different media. You can't watch three episodes of NUMB3RS and write them up. |

Monday November 10 | Monday November 17 | You can go to any of the talks at the Applied & Computational Mathematics Colloquia at CalTech and submit a 1-2 page reflection on the ideas contained in the talk and their link to Math 341 within 7-days of the talk as an Extra Credit Opportunity. |

Project Paper DRAFT EARLY SUBMISSION |
Wednesday November 5 | Thursday November 13 5pm | You can fulfill an "Extra Credit Opportunity" by submitting the draft of your Project Paper which is due on Monday November 17th early on Thursday November 13th. |
