WTO Provisions and Agreements

General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994 is a 2-page, 3-part document which lists other binding documents as of the outset of the WTO. Original trade provisions are embodied in General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1947, a 65-page document, summarized below. WTO members become "contracting parties" to GATT 1947.
Preamble: Contracting parties (CPs) recognize that "their relations in the field of trade and economic endeavour should be conducted with a view to raising standards of living, ensuring full employment and a large and steadily growing volume of real income and effective demand, developing the full use of the resources of the world and expanding the production and exchange of goods."
