Collection of Lincolniana and American
Political Life
|
A
Selection of Materials : Abraham Lincoln
Commenting on the life and
legacy of the 16th President of the United
States is nothing new. He has plenty of supporters,
but detractors have found enough to object to that
debates are unlikely to end soon. Even among disciples
there is fertile discussion about the most important
aspects of his presidency, and the lessons to be
learned form his life. Through the materials in
this collection one can track opinions about Lincoln
from his arrival on the national stage through the
beginning of the Civil Rights Era and the Vietnam
Conflict. At times held hostage to an inflexible
ideology, at others appealed to for any kind of
guidance through the turbulence of American politics,
Lincoln’s life overwhelms any single interpretation.
For proof, visit Special Collections and peruse the
thousands of items of Lincolniana we hold.
