F. Ray Risdon Collection of Lincolniana and American Political Life

A Selection of Materials : Correspondence

The 300 letters we hold were collected primarily for their signatures, which led to a collection of greater breadth than depth.  So, though there are some sustained conversations among these items, members of the cabinet of every administration between Buchanan and McKinley are represented in our holdings.  Other groups include Civil War generals and soldiers, public figures and men of business, as well as playwrights and stars of the late-19th-century stage.  The items below are but a few of the most interesting.  Click on the thumbnails to see the full-size image.
