 Deadlines

We will negotiate these deadlines (and add other progress check points) as we move through the semester.  But this will give you a sense of how you should be making progress through the semester, and into next semester.

 

Deadline Task
September 11 (Visit at least one faculty member to discuss being your Comps Advisor). Class meeting.
September 18  (Selection of Comps Advisor made)
September 25 (Have one line summary of topic available). Class meeting.
October 9 (Have one-page annotated bibliography with at least 5 sources on it. Sources should involve multiple types of resources, i.e. book, website, refereed journal article and annotations should be 1-2 sentences each). Class Meeting.
October 23 1-2 page outline of paper including title, with proposed topic sentences; begin meetings with advisors at least twice per month
October 30 Comments on outlines returned to students.
November 13 Draft of Paper to Advisers Class Meeting.
November 27 First Complete Draft of Paper due To Me (and Advisors) in hard copy form. All drafts must have
1) 100-word abstract
2) Works cited page
3) Thesis sentence bolded in the introductory paragraph
 Class Meeting.
   
Spring 2008
January 31 Second Complete Draft of Paper due To Me (and Advisors) in hard copy form. We shall also have a class meeting sometime during this week to pick lots for the speaking order for talks.
February 29 Final  Draft of Paper due to Comps Advisor and Second Reader. (Just bring me two copies). This is the version of your paper which will determine your Comps Paper grade. This version of the paper can be modified after the talks in to the final published version which will be maintained on the Math Department website. EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR COMPS PAPERS FINAL DRAFT:
March 7 EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR COMPS PAPERS FINAL DRAFT.
March 20 Senior Comprehensives Talks will be conducted in 4 consecutive weeks on Thursdays 4:30-6pm in Fowler 302.

March 27 Senior Comprehensives Talks will be conducted in 4 consecutive weeks on Thursdays 4:30-6pm in Fowler 302.

April 3 Senior Comprehensives Talks will be conducted in 4 consecutive weeks on Thursdays 4:30-6pm in Fowler 302.

April 10 Senior Comprehensives Talks will be conducted in 4 consecutive weeks on Thursdays 4:30-6pm in Fowler 302.

April 15 Senior Comprehensives Grades determined by Department faculty and communicated to Registrar
Early May  Graduating Math Majors Party!!! (and presentation of the Benedict Freedman Senior Prize in Mathematics)

 

  • By Thanksgiving (November 21-23) – first complete paper draft
  • End of January – second complete paper draft
  • End of February – final paper submitted
  • Before Spring Break (March 10-14) – talk prepared for review
  • Late March – talks presented publicly
  • April 14 – Math 400 Grades and Comps Results due to Registrar
