Resources

Here are some resources you might want to consult often during the semester. I hope that you can assist me in the development of this resource list!

  1. Fred Rickey's History of Mathematics page
This is an incredible resource containing links to all sorts of other excellent resources in the History of Mathematics.

  2. An Online History of Mathematics textbook
This is an excellent online textbook by G. Donald Allen on the history of mathematics; each section also includes learning goals and exercises.

  3. Clark University Professor David Joyce's Math 105 Course website

  4. An Online Version of Euclid's Elements
This is a very cool java-based implementation of Euclid's Elements

  5. Division by Zero
David Richeson's blog is fun overall and this is a particular link to the grave stones of famous mathematicians.

  6. Calculating the volume of la ungula (the hoof)
There's an entire website devoted to showing the claculation of the volume of Archimedes' "hoof" from Propositions XIII and XIV of The Method. This article ("The Method of Archimedes: Propositions 13 and 14") in the October 2015 issue of the Notices of the AMS is also useful.

  7. Desmos Activities
  8. The Calculus Controversy (videos)
