Exploring your Country: Extra Credit Task 2
Applying Trade Theory
Basic goal: Gather into a worksheet table some data regarding your
country's trade, growth and income so we can compare countries and see how well
some of the predictions of trade theory match real-world experiences.
Note: This extra credit task is completely independent of Task 1, so you
can complete it whether or not you did Task 1.
Details:
- Insert a new worksheet into your country spreadsheet.
- Right-click the tab at the bottom of your new worksheet and rename it
"task2" (lower case, with no spaces).
- Open the file
aa_template.xls in the
S:\Economics\Ec311\countries\2012_spring folder -- the same folder your
country file is located in.
- Right-click the top-left cell of the "task2_template" worksheet (the
cell above Row 1 and left of Column A)
--this should select and shaed the entire worksheet.
- Select "Copy".
- Go to your country spreadsheet, and right-click the top-left cell in
your "task2" worksheet
--this should shade your entire "task2: spreadsheet"
- Select "Paste"
--the worksheet from the "task2_template" worksheet should now appear in
your own country's "task2" worksheet. Note: Do not close the "aa_template.xls"
spreadsheet yet.
- Select "Edit > Replace"
- Copy the following string, including the brackets, into the "Find what" window: [aa_template.xls]
Note1: You can also just copy and paste cell Q13 into the "Find what"
window.
Note2: Be sure that the "Replace with" window is blank.
Note3: Be sure that either none of the cells or all of the cells of the
worksheet are selected.
- Select "Find next" and then "Replace" to be sure that the find/replace works. (If not, let me
know before proceeding to the next step. Just save your file back to the S
drive for now.)
- Select "Replace All".
--Result: The worksheet numerical values in the yellow cells should now
display values calculated with your own country's data.
- Now close the "aa_template.xls" spreadsheet file. (do not save any changes
to the template file).
- Complete the remaining information in the blank yellow cells in the
"task2" worksheet.
- Save your file back to the S drive.
