Exploring your Country: Extra Credit Task 1
(1) Current Output per Capita
(2) Population, output and trade trends over time

Basic task: Complete the data row for your country in the "Task1" worksheet for the course spreadsheet which you can access at the following link:
https://docs.google.com/a/oxy.edu/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aid1zCqWD19_dFczcXJESWNTR1lDeEVVMWt6Q2djd2c#gid=1

Details:

(1) Current output per capita and rank:
Source: CIA. The World Fact Book. <https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2004rank.html>
Cell F2 of the spreadsheet also contains this link.

Enter values in your country's row in columns E, F, and H.
Note: As soon as you enter the dollar value for your country's GDP per capita in column F, the formula in column G will calculate your country's value as a percent of the US.

(2) Population, output and trade trends over time

First, you have to set up your country spreadsheet which is listed and linked in the Assigned Countries worksheet.
(Original data source: the World Bank Data by Country)
(Tip: I have already set up my country and the United States, which are also linked in the worksheet, so you can check those out as examples.)

1. In your spreadsheet, you will see four data rows (yellow) in the top work section of your spreadsheet.
2. Use the "find" option to locate the actual data rows in your spreadsheet. Copy and "Paste Special" the numerical "Values" from 1960 to 2010 into the four yellow rows, beginning with column G.
If percentage growth rates appear in the blue rows of the "Result" column (column F), then skip to step 9 below. Otherwise, keep reading....
3. If any of the "Results" column cells read: "#DIV/0!", then your country does not have data for the maximum time period of 1960- 2010. Scroll through the years until you find the earliest year with number values in all 4 yellow rows. That is the first data year (Year1) for your country
4. Change the "1960" in cell B6 to your country's first data year.
5. In the column which has your first year of data, type "100" in all of the blue rows labeled "Index" (rows 6,9,14,16,19).
If percentage growth rates now appear in the blue rows of the "Result" column (column F), then skip to step 9 below. Otherwise, keep reading....
6. Continue scrolling through the years until you find the last year with number values in all 4 yellow rows. That is the last data year (Year2) for your country
7. Change the "2010" in cell C6 to your country's first data year.
8. If you still have a "#DIV/0!" in any of your "Results" column cells, drop by or send me an email, and I'll help you fix it.
9. "Save" your spreadsheet and enter your country's information into the course spreadsheet in columns J through P.
10. Print out the graph for your country that appears in the "trends graph" tab of your spreadsheet and turn it in with your name on it. If it doesn't look right, and you are familiar with Excel, feel free to fix it if you like. But you don't have to--I will look over the graphs and help you fix it if there are any problems.
