Short assignment: Flood v. Kuhn
An application of the assignment of property rights

Step 1: Read each of the following Supreme Court cases (online):
1. Federal Baseball Club of Baltimore, Inc. v. National League of Professional Baseball Clubs, et al. (1922)
2. Toolson v. New York Yankees, Inc., et al. (1953)
3. Flood v. Kuhn et al. (1972)
 
Step 2: Write a paper assessing the Supreme Court decision in the Flood v. Kuhn case.
a. Your paper should be typewritten and double-spaced, with reasonable margins and font size (preferably Times New Roman, 12 point).
b. Your paper should be three-to-five pages in length.
c. You should structure your assessment as a conventional paper, but you should include in it the information that would be required as part of a legal brief. Refer to the brief template (Word) to see the items that you should include.
d. Provide an economic analysis of the decision, and include an assessment that compares the allocative efficiency of playing talent within Major League Baseball under the following two options available to the Supreme Court for assigning the property rights to player contracts:
    Option 1: rule in favor of the reserve clause and assign the rights to team owners.
    Option 2: rule against the reserve clause and assign the rights to baseball players themselves.
 
Step 3: Submit you paper.
a. Bring four copies of your paper to class.
