Oxy-specific Introduction

Welcome.  This is the web-based text for Philosophy 225, Formal Logic.  All exercises, exams, and examples are designed for, and are intended for, the use of Philosophy 225 students at Occidental College.

There are several ways to access course materials. At times you may wish read the text as you would a normal text book, chapter by chapter. When you're thinking about what's due, consult the course schedule, with its links to readings and exercises.  There's a separate exercises page, which lists each assignment. Some assignments can be carried out on the web, and submitted by the click of a button. Others require more traditional techniques.

Please make sure you are using a full-function browser; otherwise you will not be able to read the symbols. (Test: You should see a backwards "E" here: All Oxy labs are set up with Chrome and Firefox browsers.  Some features of this text will not work with older browsers.   If you run into browser problems, please contact me.  Feel free to increase or decrease the font size to your own liking as you access these pages. You can customize your browser to change the fonts altogether. But be sure that doesn't mess up the way the special symbols are rendered.

This website is password protected. You'll need to enter your accountname and password just once for each session.  This is your Oxy username and password for e-mail, so of course you need to protect it.  If you have any problems accessing this site, please contact me as soon as possible. Other students may be experiencing similar problems. Finally, I'm interested in your suggestions for improvements.  The beauty of an online text is that it can undergo continual refinement. The text will be improved with your input.
