Dear Professor:

The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and the Society of Actuaries (SOA) are continuing to move forward with the implementation of new education systems starting in the year 2000.

The CAS & SOA have agreed to joint administration of Courses 3 & 4. The Joint Working Group on CAS Exams 3 and 4 and SOA Courses 3 and 4 has completed its final report. A copy of the report is enclosed. A separate mailing will be sent simultaneously from the CAS office detailing how the CAS transition rules will change as a result of the adoption of the joint Exams 3 and 4. We hope that this early communication will assist you as you prepare course outlines that will follow the subject material established for these courses. The joint working group is also developing a sample examination for each of the two courses; the sample examinations will be released as soon as they are finalized.
