The Actuarial Concentration

New classes are being introduced in 1999-2000 (M339U, 439V, 439J, and 349P) for the Y2K exam system starting in spring 2000, replacing four current classes (M469K & L, and 369E & J). The current four classes are not relevant to students not already registered in them by Fall 1998, so they are not described further; students already in these classes should see Professor Daniel for advice.

The full concentration in Actuarial Studies consists of the core courses listed below; these cover the material tested in three of the Y2K actuarial examinations for Associateship status, plus 40% of that in a fourth exam. Some additional courses are strongly recommended. Students entering the program late in their studies might complete only a few of the classes; such students should see Professor Daniel to determine which classes are most crucial for them. The course "M3AS" below refers to the as-yet-unnumbered new Mathematics course Applied Statistics. The hypertext link from each course leads to its very brief description in a set of course descriptions.

Core courses

Actuarial students majoring neither in Mathematics nor in Business need to seek special permission from the College of Business Administration to take these classes rather than the Business Foundation alternatives such as ACF310F and FIN320F.]
