Computers and Reality - Cognitive
Science 110 - Spring 2007
Write a short essay (should be as long as you feel necessary to make
your point and support it) on the following claim:
Artificial Intelligence -- in the sense of having a computer with "true
human intelligence" -- is in theory possible: Just digitize the brain and
simulate it on a computer. In other words, if we could look at all the
brain's neurons, their connections and their connection strengths,
activation levels, and all other relevant physical characteristics, and then
digitize it accurately enough and simulate it on a fast enough computer with
enough memory, then the computer would have the same intelligence, talents,
personality, childhood memories, and emotions as the brain being simulated
(assuming that we could build artificial ears, eyes, etc. for the computer).
